Christmas Lights in Chania

No other time to get out to catch them in a picture than at dusk ~  the lit Xmas tree of Chania in front of its monumental Market Hall "Agora" this eve and walking around I met again one from the past years.. lovely to have regularly an unexpected meet up
.
The boat drawn in lights too, is the Greek symbol for the Xmas celebration; the firtree is after all an imported symbol what competes now with the "Greek Varkoula". Agios Vasilis (St Basil) arrived ofcourse by such a vessel on the many Greek islands in the Aegean bringing the presents to the children on New Year's Day. And ofcourse he also arrived in the many harbours on the mainland... St Basil and his presents arrived by ferry boat! So a little vessel is the Greek original symbol for Agios Vasilis who's competing now with Santa Claus on Christmas days here.
