Cambridge Boathouses

Today was finally the day that mum and I got to Cambridge for our pre Christmas day out.
We had such a lovely day!
For a change we didn't go to the Orchard at Grantchester and parked in town rather than the Park & Ride.
We did all our usual things - mooching round the market, lunch in M&S: mushroom and Emmental toasties and, as part of a brilliant special offer, delicious Christmas drinks. I don't normally go for the gingerbread lattes and salted caramel hot chocolates etc but the sandwiches were £4.50 and for £5 you got a Christmas drink too so it seemed silly not to!!
We carried on looking round some of the lovely little shops and galleries then, because it had been at least an hour and a half since we'd eaten, we found ourselves in Fitzbillies eating amazing Chelsea buns and drinking tea. Yummy!!
We got back to the car in nick of time to avoid tipping over into the next parking bracket. So it cost £9.90 rather than £17.70, whoop whoop!!!
As we'd driven into town earlier we'd seen the river which we've never managed to find get to before.
From the car park we drove to the river, parked up and went for an amazing walk along the river as it got dark. It was gorgeous - the lights, reflections, houseboats, a kingfisher, a heron, the boat houses, the amazingly fit muscly young rowers half naked on the rowing machines in the doorways of the boat houses.
We walked for an hour or so and it was pitch dark when we got back to the car. It was great to discover a new part of Cambridge, I can't wait to get back and explore some more.
