Always under construction

I spent the day at the University Hospital at the Heath in Cardiff with the staff of the Health Library in the new Cochrane Building. This was part of our 'Do Something Different' initiative where we can opt to spend the day with colleagues in an area where we don't normally work. Last year I spent the day with the Couriers and in the Library Store, this year I was at the health Library.

The hospital is continually under construction. I'm fairly sure there's a thesis to be written on the history of hospital architecture as the hospital features buildings from every decade from the 1960s to the present.

The Health Library is the University's only 24 hour library - and it really does get used at all hours. The library provides social areas and quiet study areas as well as books (of course) and computers with access to online journals.

It was good to see how the staff work and how they use their knowledge and experience to help students. I enjoyed gaining an insight into an area of the University that i don't normally see.
