Bypass

This is a bypasstack.
It is standing on the roof of the boilerroom of each unit.
It was placed here with the intention of wasting less energy while the unit was stopped.
The valves in the exhaust of the boiler were meant to be closed after the unit was stopped, thus preventing the boiler from cooling down.
When the boilervalves were closed, the bypass was opening, thus leading the "cold" air, generated by the gasturbine at turning gear outside the boiler.
We calculated that when the unit was starting up, the timeloss that occurred on opening the boilervalves and the loss of heat by ventilating the boiler (compulsory) reduced the gain of energy to zero....
We now use it for cooling down the boiler for maintenance in the weekend.... the air is then sucked in through this bypass instead of blown out as intended.
It is a foggy day today, so no blue skies....

Almost made it to Blip
