Dancing Lady

Now restored to her rightful place on top of the newly refurbished Spanish City at Whitley Bay.  The Spanish City is of course immortalized in Dire Staits song Tunnel of Love and was a place I loved going when I was a child and teenager.  Then it was a fairground but previously it had opened in 1910 as a concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and tearoom.  A ballroom was added in 1920.

By the late 1990's the building had fallen in to a state of disrepair and it was very sad to see.  However, earlier this year after a huge renovation it has reopened as a dining and leisure centre and it lovely to see it thriving again.

There are actually two dancing ladies (see extra photos) and they have stood on top of the Spanish City for over 100 years.  In 2017 they were taken down and given a facelift and put back later that year.

Mr YB and I had a lovely day at the coast today.  The weather was very good for December and we did a lot of walking.  I have enclosed some extra photos of our day out.
