Church with Cranes--and a Concert!

The blip is a distant view from our London hotel. We spent most of today with our local friends Susan and David. They took us to a lively New Year's concert* at the church of St. John's, Smith Square (see the extra!), built in vivid classical/baroque style in 1728. It is dubbed the Footstool Church; the legend goes that when the architect "was designing the church he asked Queen [Anne] what she wanted it to look like. She kicked over her footstool and said 'Like that!' ".  *The concert--by the Orchestra of St. John's--was a lovely medley of mostly Strauss waltzes ,with vocal works sung by a superb soprano and tenor--sounds odd, but it was perfect for the day :)  Susan and David visited us  in Paris in 2016; Marylee has known Susan for ca. four decades.
