Della Fattoria

It's not hard to fill the frame with a picture in this place. We discovered it in Petaluma several years ago when we spent weekends in Sebastopol. It was housed in a much smaller space and was mainly a bakery with breads baked in a wood fired oven. We were particularly fond of their Pumpkin Seed bread and would stop by on our way up from Berkeley for a loaf. We usually ate the whole thing over the weekend and stopped by on the way home for another loaf.

Now the restaurant part has moved a couple of doors up the street and the bakery remains in the old space. Thinking about a place to meet one of Anne's friends from their nursing days in England we decided on Della Fattoria. The new place is three times bigger without the bakery and they have outdone themselves with their trademark style eclectic decor. The food is delicious and cheerfully brought to the table by a throng of servers. We went to the bakery but they had long since sold out of bread....

We I had thought to have a look around town after lunch as Petaluma has a number of interesting shops ranging from antique collectives and bookstores to clothing boutiques and a garden center, but a piercingly cold wind was blowing off the Petaluma River and directly through our insufficiently clad bodies, so we scurried back to the car and headed home.

All four of us are going to our neighbors' for drinks at five and we'll let the rest of the evening unfold as the spirits move us. I suspect none of us will stay awake to midnight, but it will be nice to spend the last day of the old year and the first of the new with some of our oldest friends....

Happy new year to all my Blip buddies. May you find joy in your lives....
