A lot of shops in town have displays/references to the Iolaire disaster, such as this one. The centenery of the disaster has indeed proved to be something of a cathartic experience for Lewis, in terms of talking about the subject, sharing stories about it, and paying public respect to the men involved, whether they perished or survived. The sheer horror of the disaster had previously ensured that it was not talked about to any great degree. In fact, I heard of an elderly lady yesterday who only found out that her father had been on the Iolaire (and survived) last week.
