Nollaig na mBan

A lazy and enjoyable day, we went to a brunch gathering at our pals over in Rossbrin. It was rammed - the tiny roads are only just recovering from the traffic!  Delicious food, amazing views and we repaired to the quieter room with a roaring fire and a catch up with old friends. The distant  pinnacle is the crumbling remains of Rossbrin Castle, once guarding the comings and goings in Roaringwater Bay, spotted on our way home.

And it's Epiphany but did you know it's also Nollaig na mBan? Or Women's Little Christmas. This was traditionally the day when women, who had been slaving ceaselessly over the Christmas period, were given the day off, their husbands doing all the chores! Today even when  chores are more evenly divided Nollaig na mBan is still a big deal here -  the finery going on and women heading off to cocktails, lavish meals and dancing along to Queen tribute bands. Hmmm. I'm staying in!
