Lake Ohau

Looking from the tranquil shores of Lake Ohau towards the distant Mount Cook in the mist. Nearby there were several red mistletoe plants growing on the trees but they don't look anything like the green mistletoe with which we are familiar and they have an unusual way of pollination by nectar seeking birds. Also at the edge of the photo is the very thorny matagouri plant which is endemic to NZ and was often used as tattoo needles by the Maoris.
