Monument to Charlie

I used to have a very tame blackbird that would feed from my hand. My Mam called him Charlie. He was at least 8 years old when I assume he died from old age. Average lifespan for a blackbird is about 4 years according to the Internet. He fathered dozens of chicks and raised them in my back garden which is tiny. His partner still lives in the garden and I've seen a few males but none have stayed. Blackbirds remain faithful to one partner year after year and they raise the chicks together. Often one bird will feed half of the chicks and the other the remainder. I'm hoping she finds a new partner this spring.
