A sewing day

The day was spent at the U3A sewing. Plenty of chat and a reasonable level of productivity!!! My achievement is in extras.

This evening I went to another quilting group. We were shown a collection of quilts and UFO’s (unfinished objects) from the 1800’s &1900’s. Most were hand sewn and quilted. I’ve shown the back of an unfinished piece of work done in the 1880’s. The template papers are recycled advertisements. The materials used would have been recycled from used garments or leftover pieces of material. These days many quilts are made from newly purchased fabric, or new fabric that has been in the ‘stash’, a collection of fabric in the cupboard for months or years!!!
