Today's the day!

I have identified January 10 as the day when I can see the effects of the winter solstice (December 21). This year I wasn't too hopeful. The days have been dreary and dark. But tonight as I was heading to the cathedral for 5:30 mass I noticed that there was still some twilight in the sky.

The highest spot of light is a sliver of moon. It appeared sharp and clear to the naked eye, but my iPhone camera didn't agree. The tiny light slightly below the moon might be a star or a planet. I await further photographic developments from Apple!
