Wanderings & Witterings

Unicorn

I travelled through to Edinburgh this evening to see the Giant Lanterns of China exhibition at Edinburgh Zoo and was not disappointed.

It was an astonishing display of Chinese lanterns, from memory around 450 of them, arranged in a mile-long trail through the park. Safe to say, lots of photos were taken!

The theme was Myths & Legends and the first part of the trail featured Chinese mythical creatures, while the second part featured Scottish ones, including a display of unicorns, like the one pictured above. Oh, and some Kelpies!

The third section was endangered species and featured lanterns of some of the animals that form part of the collection of the Zoo in Edinburgh and at the Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig.

There was a musical soundtrack to accompany our walk around the park and all-in-all it was a most enjoyable evening out. The craftsmanship behind these lanterns was tremendous and there was even an acrobatic circus-type display by some performers to enjoy.
