Anthony Bourdain

My new Anthony Bourdain t-shirt. I was shocked to the core that a man who seemed to have life sussed - an iconic chef, writer, journalist, and TV personality - could have committed suicide as he did in Summer 2018. He was the embodiment of gritty, CBGB-style, New York cool. His book "Kitchen Confidential", (which lifted the greasy lid on the goings on behind the scenes in the kitchens of restaurants), is a joy to read, and is my top ten books of all-time. And yet, he was open about his on-going struggles with depression, and described his life as a system of strategies to outwit the part of him that, if given the chance, would spend all day in bed watching old films and smoking weed. Depression is no admirer of rank or status.
