Small pigeon

Today I spent most of the morning up a ladder with a pruning saw and some loppers.

According to Monty one should prune apple trees enough that a pigeon can fly straight through the branches. Even after my efforts these are a long way off that* but they haven't been done for at least 15 years so I'm quite pleased.

*unless it's a very small pigeon.
