Life in a Northern Town

Come In Number 38

Sarah and I treated ourselves after working hard in foul weather at the wildlife rescue this morning.

At the rescue this morning a big burly man arrived with a very badly injured seagull. Kathy gave it pain relief and told the man she'd take the bird to the vet but it would almost certainly have to be put to sleep. I walked out with him, reassuring him he'd saved the bird from a slow, horrible death, and he burst into tears. So of course I did too. As he was leaving he said he shouldn't be getting emotional as he's a farmer. I think you can tell a lot about a person from how they show compassion towards  animals.
