Toothwort

We went for a stroll round the Botanics, unfortunately having missed the news that the glasshouses are closed at the moment.

Saw what I took at first to be a fungus growing around the bole of a large tree - but it had a name tag, so I looked it up. Oh, it's a parasite. And protocarnivorous. Altogether rather unpleasant sounding! It's Lathraea clandestina.
