Waipiata

Today we drove to Waipiata, a very small place with just a few buildings. It’s about 2 hours drive from Wanaka. Our friends from Dunedin have a weekend escape place there. We had a beautiful lunch and catch up before driving back through the Ida Valley, and stopped at the Oturehua General Store. The community own it, so it is partly a museum and partly an operational store.
This countryside is fabulous. Big spaces, big skies, lots of clouds, and the very popular biking track, the Central Otago Rail Trail , passes through it.
We stopped and caught up with other Dunedin friends who are holidaying in Cromwell.
A super day, plus we came home with yummy apricots, nectarines , walnuts and eggs from road side stalls.
