Başınız sağolsun

A day I wish wasn't necessary to describe for it was a day wrapped in grief for the school community as many of us attended the funeral of our colleague's son.  On this wonderfully warm and sunny day, both outside Zincirlikuyu mosque, and in the cemetery garden were crowded, as is the custom, with those who would show and share their love and sadness.  For more than thirty years, my friend and colleague has served the school and the love with which she has done this was surely reflected in the number of people who came as literally hundreds - current and retired teachers, staff and workers, graduates and friends - offered their condolences to a heart broken mother who has lost her only son.  He was 34. He passed away earlier this week in Miami, from complications arising from a virulent case of influenza and leaves a young wife (an '02 graduate of our school) and an eighteen month old son.

To Umran, my dear friend and colleague,
Başınız sağolsun, Allah rahmet eylesin mekanı cennet olsun.
My heartfelt condolences, may he rest in peace.
