Team Training Day

Oh my Lordy, we had to be in base for 9am. Sue left home at 7:20 and came to me. It then took an hour and fifty minutes to do a journey that usually takes three quarters of an hour on a bad day....sigh. How people face rush hour traffic day in day out I’ll never understand, it was hell.

Once in base we were then driven into the centre of town where we had our training day. Some interesting stuff, some ‘same old same old’, some group work and some things solved.

One task each group had to do was build the tallest free standing structure they could with 20 spaghetti strands, a metre of string, a metre of tape, an envelope and a marshmallow. Our structure was deemed the strongest as a triangle is a strong shape apparently. Yvonne didn’t even bring her ruler near ours as the others were taller....sigh. But, we were quite proud of it. It was all about team work, achievement and feeling proud rather than our engineering skills, of course.

I’d made a PowerPoint and left it on Yvonne’s desk on Sunday and she had brought it along and played it for everyone. I’d put a lot of photos on of all the fun things we have done over the last year. It went down well and they watched it a couple of times. I’d not been asked to do it, but Yvonne had asked that we think about what makes us do our happy dance and once I start fiddling on the computer I’m engrossed. She said some lovely things about it which is always nice....as we discussed today...it is great to be praised for things we do.

We were in rush hour traffic going home too...sigh, although it wasn’t as bad as going.
