Ylläs cross-country ski area

This is the central area of the 330km of ski trails, cut for classic and skating that wind through the forests here. There is less snow than usual for this time of year, but the trails are all in superb condition.

For those of you with keen eyes and a clear screen, there is a 'Moomin' style hut (kota) on the edges of the trees in the foreground and at the clearing in the centre there is a favourite hut a fireplace called 'Hangaskuru'.

We have snowshoed up to the top of Kesänki tunturi, and are looking north. The slightly larger tunturi beyond is called Lainio and at the back is Pyhätunturi. The Pallas hills in the far distance, left of centre, is the northern extension of the national park.
