a piece of the past

I saw this boat, on the pebble beach, in a local sea port. I have no idea how it got there, or indeed anything about it.
It must have a history as we all do. I began to imagine it being tossed about in the sea, being carefully tended to with a small team of experienced mariners, all attempting to bring it home.
It must have been the proud possession of someone, sometime, but now it is abandoned, lonely, sad.
I wonder what happened?
There are some items, possessions which have intrinsic value because of their financial worth and there are others which have only value in terms of sentiment. Then there are people, family, friends whose value is qualitatively different. Nonetheless they can feel abandoned, neglected.
We need to ensure that those people we value know that they mean something to us...... so why not tell them?
