It’s notable that I remember old money

Brought up knowing there were 12d to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound - remember spending ha’pennies - but not farthings - my spending money never reached the dizzy heights of half a crown - used to get a threepeny bit - perhaps a sixpence if I was lucky - big purchases never seemed to cost a round pound - seemed always to end in 9/11d - my first wage was a guinea a day

Can now buy framed old money from a local shop - at a decimal cost - the hour long dental treatment - which I had today had today cost much more than thirty bob
