Tepid reaction by a one-man audience (with a decidedly half-empty glass of wine) at the opening of the Mark Francis exhibition, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.
Don't believe images. Believe experiences. For the camera lies. Today was the busiest opening I have seen at the Kerlin, beside the time when one of Bono's childhood mates exhibited some rather meh paintings.
The place was packed. The plonk wine flew off the trays. The art lovers dressed up as art lovers. Would-be artists dressed up as would be artists. The artist dressed as you and me.
I will have to go back and see that exhibition in good conditions.
Francis is an uncompromising painter who makes visual art visually pleasing. A true oddball.
