Mindarie Marina

We took a stroll along the board walk this afternoon, this sculpture is of an Egyptian rowing boat, it has stood here above the boardwalk for more years than i can remember, a pair of Ospreys once built their nest here inside the sculpture, they raised many chicks, season after season they would return, add a few more sticks and repair the nest ready for a new season of chicks. A couple of years ago the council consulted parks and wildlife concerning the safety of the structure due to the constant use by the Ospreys, they decided the structure needed maintenance for the safety of the public, they pulled down the nest when it was out of season for the Ospreys, they did their maintenance to the sculpture, hoping the following season the Ospreys would return, they never did, instead they have built their nest further along the coast hidden in the rocks, we still see them from time to time.
I doubt they will return to build a new nest here, which is a shame, they are sadly missed by the locals.
