to Be By The Fireside

This old slate fireplace is situate in a tholtan (an old Manx farmstead) called Sharragh Bane high up in the Glen formed by the Sulby River.

At one time this area of ground would have commanded fine views over the valley.

In the 1950's and 60's there was considerable afforestation of our upland areas and the fine views were lost.  However today, with a full Irish Sea gale at its height, this area was remarkably sheltered.

This old fireplace could probably tell a tale or two...
