Time Ball Buildings, Leeds

Today we went across to Leeds for a few items for our forthcoming holiday.
These rather decorative buildings on lower Briggate have caught my eye in the past. It is a Grade II listed building dating from the 19th century and has been used by a variety of businesses.
In 1872 J Dyson, a watchmaker, was at No.26 and by 1890 the firm occupied numbers 24 and 25 as well. The large clock bears the Dyson name. The gilded time ball mechanism was linked to Greenwich and dropped at exactly 1pm each day. It must be a rare survival of such elaborate Victorian engineering.

Like in many city centres, unless you look above street level, it is possible to miss such architectural gems like this.

It was about 11:30 when I took this photo, so the clock(s) do not appear to have been working today.
