Carved nautilus shell

Too many photos to choose from today, but this carved nautilus shell in the Museu da Quinta das Cruzes made it for sheer weirdness and the skill and time it must have taken to execute it. Some unbelievably intricate pieces of silverware on display there. This one was German from the mid 19th century I think... things that didn’t make it: pastel de Nata, a stack of bacalhau, silver filigree box. Normally I’m uncharacteristically disinterested in displays of silverware but a few were just so impressive and/or strange. Like a llama standing on what looked like a large soap dish.
