Visit today to The Patriarchal Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist, the oldest Orthodox religious community in the UK,
a monastic community for both men and women in Tolleshunt Knights.

The religious community was founded in 1958 by Elder Sophrony, under the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Anthony, Metropolitan of Sourozh and ruling Russian bishop in England, with six monastics.

The community consists of men and women living the monastic tradition of a Christ-centred prayer life, creating icons. There are 40 monastics in the community, the majority of whom are nuns, with a small number of monks.

We had a tour of the monastery, an introduction to icons and tea in the remarkable dining room. The monks and nuns were kindness and joy itself.

Check out the extras ......... excellent!
