Mourão Festival Procession

A full day experiencing the more religious part of the celebration of Nossa Senhora das Candeias (Our Lady of Lights).  We walked over to M & D’s house on the land and were amazed at how much they had achieved in making their first building habitable.  Obviously a long way to go for them to feel truly settled and able to have visitors but impressive nevertheless.  Went to mass at the main church by the castle and then a lovely lunch in Estrela - right by the lake.  This was followed by joining the mass procession in this small town of the Lady’s statue with live band and banners and firework display - the procession lasted nearly 2 hours wending its way through the town and it was good to sit down at the end of the day in M&D’s cosy wood fire heated home.
