Birds/Boxes

One of French Friend's many talents is making contemporary jewellery, memory boxes and other artefacts out of Polymer clay. She is teaching her first 3 day Worksop at Higham Hall Study Centre, Cockermouth in March and to that end she invited three of us to attend a dummy run at her house today. The day has gone very well, we were invited to give constructive criticism etc and one of the other guinea pigs was a teacher so was able to provide some very practical advice. Our day consisted of firstly FF telling us about the properties of Fimo clay, elf & safety etc, the tools and then choosing colour schemes and designs, painting our boxes, preparing the clay by warming it up in our hands, then through a pasta cutter then rolling it out into tiles, adding embellishments, having a lovely lunch of homemade chicken soup and my g/f cherry and almond cake whilst our clay was baked in the oven and finally sticking tiles onto our boxes (mine's the green one). We've all had a brilliant time and I'm certain that FF will be an excellent tutor and everyone will enjoy their course as much as we have.

FF had the workshop in her sun room so we had a very good view of all the lovely bird visitors. I would have liked to take more photos of the birds but had to concentrate on my work!!
