Overnight Winds

Big surprise on our invigorating morning walk: two trees had blown down across the public restroom and snackbar building near Lighthouse Point. It was hard to tell, but amazingly it looks like the building, concrete bunker that it is, does not appear to be damaged. Park Services was busy cutting up the logs, lots of guys with chainsaws and hardhats. The enormous shallow rootballs lay exposed to the world, making me wonder once again how those trees ever can stand up at all. A family with two young boys stood beneath the remaining tree, watching the action. Beneath the remaining tree. Did I say that twice? Did I even see that?

We’ve had high winds and unpredictable cloudbursts all night and day. Downed branches and deep puddles, the elusive chronic leak under our deck door, moments of stunning sunlight and blue skies, more howling wind and dumps of rain—quite a show.
