Keeping Me Sane

The Diner

This is a favorite place to eat for bikers, veterans, workers, local business people and retirees. The people that eat here are diverse, so if you're a people watcher like me, it's a plethora of the ordinary, unusual, odd, or unique from the world.

The service is fast and the southern food is incredible. When you walk into this diner, you're greeted by cheery voices saying, "Sit anywhere you like." It's not long before your waitress is at your booth asking "what would you like to drink?" Your order is taken and before you can get cream and sugar in your coffee, the food is brought to your table.

This diner is different in that everyone knows each other. If you don't know the people at the table next to you, a conversation may start before the end of your meal. It's not long before you become a "regular". The regulars have their picture taken and added to "the wall". They're greeted by their first names or a "hey, sweetie....how are you?" All patrons are treated to the kind of Southern Hospitality that you read about in books.

It's a busy place with orders being shouted, "cash please", "table 4 is down", or "food in the window". It reminds you of a tightly run ship where everyone knows their job and rushes around like bees in the hive.

On the counter next to the register are donation cans for the local Humane Society or a child in need of funds for surgery. There's also jams, jellies, sugar cane syrup or Christmas ornaments for sale. If it's summer time, you can get a great buy on a delicious watermelon or cantaloupe.

When leaving it's the same friendly farewells you hear; "Have a nice day" or "See you tomorrow."
