Mount Ngauruhoe from Tongariro Crossing

Nearly the highest point on the Crossing - the signpost is for the walk to Tongariro summit. It was still freezing at 0844 when this shot was taken, and the snow around was neve, so the summit climb didn't happen due to the lack of winter kit - an ice axe would've been useful.

Fantastic day - views to Mount Egmont (150k away) - started @6am and avoided the crowds until the descent. Real shame the full Crossing isn't open - the 2nd half looked more interesting than the first
