Getting the sparkle back

More snowdrops again

First day of work taking place on site, with one of our main buildings out of bounds and we now have Portaloos for the next few weeks. Various things cropped up including a flood in the kitchen from taps which seemed to have been left on fully open, and that took a fair amount of mopping up. All in all it was a bit of a guddle of a day, but that's not uncommon where I work!

In the evening I went to the "Talk Show" for the Lyceum's current production, a staging of "Touching the Void". This was a fascinating discussion on the theme of mountaineering and the will to survive with among others, Jamie Andrew who lost both hands and feet after being stranded in the Alps during a storm which lasted five days. You can read his story here. He hasn't given up mountaineering, though: he's climbed the Matterhorn, the first quadruple amputee to do so. Jasmin Paris was another of the speakers. On January 16th 2019 she completed the Spine Race in a record breaking 83 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds, beating Eoin Keith's 2016 record by 12 hours and 5 minutes. It seems that women may beat men in this kind of endurance test, but that doesn't tempt me one bit! Here's more about the speakers.
