The power of packaging

I picked this fag packet up off the pavement the other day. I had completely forgotten about the new laws on packaging and cigarettes are hidden from view in shops now so I had not seen the new designs.

I wondered if its working or people just habituate to the images and don't read the words.

So how many adults are still smoking in the UK? I guessed about 25% so I was pleased to discover that it is down to 15%  (Don't know how many vape instead) It was 46% in 1974. For some world stats see here.

I am not being sanctimonious - I smoked until I was 35. I just hope the figure continues to drop, if only to reduce the number of fag ends I have to pick up as a born-again litter picker.
