What a lovely day:-

Last night I gave a talk and demonstration on beekeeping to the ladies of Cornaa W.I.

It just happened that I was looking for bee boles in an abandoned manx farm (tholtan) near Cornaa.  With the aid of their local knowledge they were able to give me directions to this tholtan called Ballachrink.

The bee boles are the two rectangular recesses that you see in the wall below the derelict farm house.

It surprises me just how close the bee colonies were to human passers by.  Perhaps in those days of old they did not bother with bee stings!
