Winter Bus Challenge No 162!

Behind The Scenes Tour, Bath Abbey

“Put on hard hats and take a sneak peek at the historic floor as it is saved from collapse and its 891 memorial stones are conserved. Our Behind the Scenes tours will visit parts of the Abbey that are usually off limits to members of the public, and thanks to our experienced guides, will discover just why there are so many memorial stones on the Abbey floor, why the floor is collapsing, and the complex work carried out to repair the floor as part of our Footprint Project, as well as some of the things the team of archaeologists have found out along the way.”

Into Bath this morning to meet up with my book group friends for a very interesting Behind The Scenes Tour at the Abbey. The tour is part of the Abbey’s £19 million Footprint Project (the above link will take you to a short video and more information about the project, if you’re interested). A very interesting tour, I learned so much about the Abbey, and best of all I got to wear a hard hat!

With the removal of the Victorian heating system and an overnight frost, inside the Abbey the temperature was on the chilly side. But outside people were enjoying stunning blue skies and basking in the warm sunshine (see extra, but try and ignore the litter, and the bloke in his vest!).

Total bus journey time = 52 mins
