The best scent in the woods!

Mezereon (Daphne mezereum) is a native small shrub that occurs sporadically in the woodlands on the limestone hills around Morecambe Bay.

The flowers (pink and a wee bit scruffy up a bare woody stem) open early in the year, before the green shoots appear, and can usually be located by its scent, which is strong and very sweet.

You can be walking along a woodland path when all of a sudden you pass through a drift of this delicious fragrance - one of the best Spring experiences in our wild woods.
