Ohiwa Harbour....

....jewel of the Bay of Plenty.

A beautiful morning greeted us, lovely blue sky, sun beaming down upon a calm Pacific Ocean, great to be home.

Nothing much planned this morning so took a wander down to the harbour. The tide was in, people were fishing off the wharf, boats were anchored, all was calm and peaceful.

Ohiwa Harbour is a large shallow estuary, home to birds, fish and native vegetation, a great spot for holiday makers and locals. Through the years it's been a major food source for local iwi with fish and shellfish in abundance. For local Maori, the Ohiwa harbour area is an important part of their culture, history and life.

Later in the day we visited my aunt, so nice to see mum with her sister sharing news and catching up - happy days :)

This is a backblip from our North Island holiday in August 2018, enjoying reliving the memories :)
