Ercall Quarry

We intended to walk up the Wrekin today but the crowds were there in force. So we moved on slightly to Ercall Quarry where the geology (I discovered afterwards) demonstrates all the ancient turmoil of the local landscape; tectonic plates clashing and volcanic eruptions along their edges forming some hills, rock being pushed ever upwards forming others and peripheral magma upwellings forming yet more. If only I'd examined it more closely in the moment!

What I did like was the way the Sessile Oak woodland was also subjected to forces outside its control. The weather allows great, tall trees down in sheltered spots but if you glance up at the quarry top the trees up there are half the size.

A sort of 'productive' day; found a good 2nd hand version of our current car at a very (relatively) reasonable price. After much drawing in of breath and a long coffee session we bit the bullet. Eek.

And Poppydog would like to thank everyone for their kind ♡s yesterday - she knows she's adorable and this confirms it ;-)))
