22nd February

Eight years ago today, 22 February 2011, at 12:51 pm, Christchurch was hit by the earthquake. On this site, 112 of the 185 who died were working in the Canterbury Television Building - mainly young people of different nationalities. The building suffered a total collapse resulting in horrific injuries. The parents, families and survivors decided they would like a Peace and Tranquility Garden to mark the spot.

Extras: A roasting hot start, so the beach for a breath of fresh air.

The Cardboard Cathedral, Christchurch’s Transitional Cathedral pending the rebuilding of the ruined former one.
