It's nice to be important

I discovered quite randomly that the kind and reserved woman who lives in the flat below has an MBE. Honoured for years of voluntary work feeding, clothing and befriending rough sleepers.

There was a quiet pride as see shared tales. It wasn't boastful pride, more of a humble 'this is what you do' in a good society. I intend to steal her "if you wouldn't eat it or wear it yourself then don't donate it" approach.

I cheekily insisted on taking a picture. She duly oblidged. Whilst humble, she knows when to use 'letters' to help others and that's when it's nice to be important. But in Myrtle's case it is more important to be nice!
