Leading Lights
The two big white lamps in the road on the left pic are a pair of LEADING LIGHTS on Hellihole Road, Stromness.
The lamps face the sea and are at different heights.  When they are seen from a sea vessel, the lamps align vertically when the vessel is on the correct course. 
In the right hand image, one of the Leading Lights is seen from the front.
