Roman, or Not

Drove a total of over six hours today, to fetch a new battery from the suppliers in Cartaxo, north of Lisbon; otherwise, would have been without electricity till at least after the weekend, and then it's Carnaval...

Couldn't drive all that way without discovering somewhere new, so we stopped for lunch in Arruda dos Vinhos, a small town surrounded by vineyards. On the way, saw this bridge, so stopped for a walk. A woman we chatted to said it was "really old, Roman, at least two hundred years old"... not sure whether she meant two thousand, or what. She also said the Tagus flooded many years ago, when she was living in Belgium, and around one hundred people in her town died. The bridge was part of a system for bringing water to the town, but a few years ago, it was all put underground.

Anyway, rushing, as the bit of electricity in the system could end at any moment, hoping for plenty of sunshine tomorrow.

Gratefuls:
- safe driving and a good driver, I never, never take that for granted
- wonderful lunch, ending with a slice of gooey chocolate cake, covered in profiteroles; I usually only have a bite of Mike's dessert, but this was so good, had almost half of it!
- candles, and that I don't usually depend on them for light
