Not Quite Light at The Creameries

Last summer, my friend Simon - aka @NotQuiteLight - spent a few weeks in Gloucester, New England where,  amongst other things, he took loads of his signature lowlight photographs (which you can see here).

Late last year, he put them up in a wonderful exhibition at The Creameries in Chorlton. Charlie and I went along to the opening night to see the pictures (and she loved one of them so much that I gave it to her for Christmas).

Now the exhibition is finishing and tonight Simon put on a show based around the photos, consisting of some spoken word from him interspersed by music from a couple of folk artists.

To be honest, I wasn't sure about the format, not least because I always enjoy Simon when he's more off the cuff than the speaking from a prepared piece but, actually, this evening was brilliant. Simon's narrative of his trip to New England, which referred to many of the photos on display, enjoyed a very natural delivery and was totally absorbing (and his choice of musicians was perfect, too).

We get so used to see photos on the web that it's easy to forget how much of a difference it can make seeing the same pictures properly printed and framed. This evening was all the better for extending the frame out to include the experiences that led to the pictures.
