Garths Ness

Looking down on Garths Ness at the South End of Shetland with Sumburgh Head in the distance. This is the spot where the oil tanker Braer ran aground in January 1993 after just missing Sumburgh Head and the various small islands in between before slamming in the rocks. I well remember that we could smell the oil in Sandwick about 12 miles as the crow flies away from the event. There was also a film of oil covering our westerly facing windows. Hope we never see the like again.
