In the shadow

The venue for today's exercise was in the shadow of The Oval Cricket ground but it wasn't for a sporting occasion. The WI had taken over a secondary school for a whole day of workshops for committee members. 180 members could select from eight different subjects in three different sessions. There were sessions on IT, programme planning, public speaking and more general committee work. As a retired WI Adviser I was commandeered as a helper - with all these simultaneous workshops they needed all the help they could get. There was a great atmosphere with members from the Surrey WIs on the London fringes as well as some from further out. I really enjoyed being involved again, but wouldn't like to go back to the role.
