Southern Valley

After a great night in the tent, we cooked a toasted ciabatta with left over steak, eggs and tomatoes. It was delicious. The morning was amazing, with mist rolling over the Waimakariri River, and a beautiful sunrise.
We set off tramping up the Southern Valley, first crossing the Hawdon River. I’d forgotten what it’s like to spend the day walking in water filled squelchy boots! Altogether we crossed the river 20 times! It wasn’t too cold. The day really heated up, then we packed up the tents, and headed down to Papanui.
We met up with friends that we haven’t seen for 15 years at the great New Port and Eagle micropub and brewery.
